FAQs

What is the process?

Should you consider counselling with us, we ask you to come in for an initial appointment which is just between you and an assessment counsellor who will help you decide on the next step. If you decide to continue, and we feel counselling could help, you will be offered regular weekly Counselling sessions with the same counsellor each week.  Your details will be placed on a waiting list whilst the Clinical Services Manager finds a counsellor that we think will be a good match. When a suitable counsellor is found we will call you to confirm your availability and if the day, times and venue are convenient we will send an email confirming the start date. Please remember to check your junk folder as the email might be treated as spam by some providers and it’s a good idea to add us to your ‘safe senders’ list.

How many counselling sessions are offered?

All clients are offered a course of six weeks of counselling sessions. After this time clients discuss with their counsellor whether to extend the contract further, this can be up to a year.

How long does the counselling session last?

The counselling session lasts for 50 minutes, the same time each week, with the same counsellor for the length of the counselling contract.

What happens if I can’t attend my counselling session?

Please leave a message on the office answerphone, 01932 244070, and the counsellor will be able to retrieve your message remotely.

Do I have to pay for missed sessions?

The Counselling Partnership is funded in part by the donations of clients in counselling. Many venues charge for the use of their facilities and hence we ask for all missed appointments to be paid for.

Please discuss this with your counsellor if you have any concerns.

How much does counselling cost?

Contributions for each session will be agreed at the initial appointment and can range from £25.00 — £55.00 depending on your circumstances.

We are able to offer a Contribution Assistance Scheme for clients who require further support with their contributions.

Where will I need to go for counselling?

We are currently offering remote counselling via the telephone or internet due to social distancing restrictions.  We hope to re-introduce face to face counselling from our venue in Walton very soon – for further information about this please call us on 01932 244070.

Who will be counselling me?

Our volunteer counsellors have a wide range of skills and experience. Each counsellor has a recognised certificate of competence. Our volunteer counsellors are either qualified or are at least two years into their training.  Each counsellor is DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked and carefully selected before working with us. All counsellors work is supervised to ensure a completely professional, appropriate and ethical service.

All our counsellors are volunteers.

Is the service confidential?

The service is confidential within the organisation and client details are held securely in line with current data legislation. Furthermore, we adhere to the  British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy’s Ethical Framework for counselling professions
